Healthy brain and frontal sinus, CT scan
Healthy brain and frontal sinus. Coloured computed tomography (CT) scan of a human head. The axial (horizontal) scan has revealed the head and brain in cross section. The front of the head is at top. The dark areas in the skull (pale) towards the front of the head (top) are the frontal sinuses, air spaces lined with mucous membranes. The brain (orange) fills the remainder of the skull. CT scanning uses beams of X-rays fired at different angles to build up slice images through the body. It is useful for detecting many brain disorders such as haemorrhages or tumours

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a vibrant and healthy brain, accompanied by the frontal sinus, as captured through a coloured computed tomography (CT) scan of a human head. The axial scan provides us with an insightful cross-sectional view of the head and brain, with the front of the head positioned at the top. The pale dark areas within the skull towards the front represent the frontal sinuses - air spaces lined with mucous membranes. These sinuses play an essential role in our respiratory system. Meanwhile, filling up most of the skull is our remarkable brain depicted in a striking orange hue. Utilizing beams of X-rays fired from different angles, CT scanning enables medical professionals to construct detailed slice images throughout various parts of our body. This imaging technique proves invaluable for identifying numerous brain disorders such as haemorrhages or tumours that may affect our neurological health. By offering this comprehensive visual representation, this photograph allows us to appreciate both the intricate anatomy and normal functioning of these vital organs within our nervous system. It serves as a powerful tool for diagnostic purposes in neurology and aids healthcare professionals in their quest to provide accurate assessments and treatments for patients' well-being.
