Brain cancer, MRI scan C016 / 4436

Brain cancer. Coloured coronal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan through the head of a 48 year old male patient with a glioblastoma (centre right), with surrounding oedema (fluid) that is compressing the left ventricle (at right). A glioblastoma is a particularly malignant brain cancer that arises from the supporting glial cells in the brain. Treatment is with a combination of surgery and radiotherapy, but the prognosis is poor

31"x27" (79x69cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 24x20 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 31x27 inches (787x685mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the devastating reality of brain cancer. The coloured coronal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan reveals the intricate details of a glioblastoma, an aggressive and malignant tumor that originates from glial cells in the brain. At the center-right of the image, this 48-year-old male patient's glioblastoma is prominently displayed, surrounded by fluid-filled oedema that exerts pressure on the left ventricle at its right. The diagnosis of such a condition is undoubtedly grim, as treatment options for glioblastomas typically involve a combination of surgery and radiotherapy. However, despite medical intervention, prognosis remains poor for individuals afflicted with this disorder. This photograph serves as a poignant reminder of both the fragility and complexity of our human bodies. It highlights not only the advancements made in diagnostic technology but also underscores the urgent need for further research and development in oncology. As we gaze upon this image, we are confronted with an unsettling truth: brain cancer knows no boundaries or age limits. This man's forties should have been filled with joyous moments and milestones; instead, he finds himself entangled in a battle against an abnormal growth within his own head. Ultimately, this print stands as a testament to both scientific progress and human resilience. It urges us to continue striving towards finding effective treatments while fostering empathy and support for those affected by this relentless disease.
