Proteus bacteria

Proteus bacteria. Coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of a section through Proteus sp. bacteria. These Gram-negative bacteria occur in two forms. The two short bacilli (rod-shaped) bacteria (green & red) can attach to other cells and to substrates. The other larger form (red) is covered in whip-like flagella with which it moves around and colonises new areas by a process called swarming. Proteus bacteria are normally found in soil, but also occur in the human intestine. They can cause urinary tract infections, especially in people with weakened immune systems. Magnification unknown

Bring the fascinating world of microbiology into your home or office with our stunning Proteus bacteria poster prints from Science Photo Library. This captivating image, taken through Coloured Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), reveals the intricate structure of Proteus sp. bacteria in mesmerizing detail. As Gram-negative bacteria, Proteus occurs in two forms, adding to its scientific intrigue. Elevate your space with this educational and visually engaging poster, a perfect addition for science enthusiasts, classrooms, or laboratories.

A2 Poster (59.4 x 42cm, 23.4" x 16.5" inches) printed on 170gsm Satin Poster Paper. Securely packaged, rolled and inserted into a strong mailing tube and shipped tracked. Poster Prints are of comparable archival quality to our Photographic prints, they are simply printed on thinner Poster Paper. Whilst we only use Photographic Prints in our frames, you can frame Poster Prints if they are carefully supported to prevent sagging over time.

Poster prints are budget friendly enlarged prints in standard poster paper sizes (A0, A1, A2, A3 etc). Whilst poster paper is sometimes thinner and less durable than our other paper types, they are still ok for framing and should last many years. Our Archival Quality Photo Prints and Fine Art Paper Prints are printed on higher quality paper and the choice of which largely depends on your budget.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the intricate world of Proteus bacteria. In this coloured transmission electron micrograph, we are granted a glimpse into their fascinating structure and behavior. The image captures a section through these Gram-negative bacteria, revealing two distinct forms. The first form consists of two short bacilli, colored in vibrant green and red hues. These rod-shaped bacteria possess the ability to attach themselves to other cells and substrates, establishing connections within their environment. Meanwhile, the second larger form is adorned with whip-like flagella that enable it to move around effortlessly. This remarkable mobility allows it to colonize new areas through a process known as swarming. Proteus bacteria typically inhabit soil but can also be found in the human intestine. While they may seem innocuous at first glance, these microorganisms have been known to cause urinary tract infections, particularly among individuals with weakened immune systems. The magnification level used for this photograph remains unknown; however, its detailed depiction sheds light on the pathogenic nature of Proteus bacteria. It serves as a reminder of both the beauty and complexity present within our microscopic world – one that continues to captivate scientists in fields such as bacteriology and microbiology.
