Dividing cells

Dividing cells. Computer artwork of a spiral of cells during mitosis (nuclear division). During mitosis two daughter nuclei are formed from one parent nucleus. These cells are at the metaphase stage, where the chromosomes (white) line up along the centre of the cell, and microtubules, or spindles (red), attach to the chromosomes. Microtubules, part of the cells cytoskeleton, grow from each pole of the cell, and pull the identical halves of the chromosomes apart. The cell goes on to divide in half, with each new cell retaining a copy of the parent cells genetic information

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the intricate process of cell division, known as mitosis. In this computer artwork, a mesmerizing spiral of cells is depicted during the metaphase stage of mitosis. The chromosomes, represented in white, align themselves along the center of each cell while microtubules or spindles (colored red) attach to them. Mitosis involves the formation of two daughter nuclei from one parent nucleus. As part of the cell's cytoskeleton, microtubules grow from each pole and exert their force on the identical halves of chromosomes. This pulling action effectively separates the genetic material within each cell. The image highlights both the beauty and complexity inherent in biological processes. It serves as a reminder that life at its most fundamental level operates with precision and orderliness. Each new cell resulting from this division retains an exact copy of its parent's genetic information. This stunning illustration not only captures scientific accuracy but also conveys a sense of wonder about our own existence and how life perpetuates itself through such intricate mechanisms. It represents a fusion between artistry and biology, inviting viewers to contemplate the marvels hidden within our microscopic world.
