Spacecraft on the Moon, lunar map
Spacecraft on the Moon. Map showing coloured markers for 34 spacecraft that impacted or landed on the Moon from the 1960s onwards. The spacecraft are: Ranger 7-9 (1964 to 1965, NASA, white), Luna 5, 7-9, 13, 15-18, 20-21, 23-24 (1965 to 1976, Soviet Union, red), Surveyor 1-7 (1966 to 1968, NASA, green), Lunar Orbiter 1-3 (1966 to 1967, NASA, black), Apollo 11-12, 14-17 (1969 to 1972, NASA, blue), Lunar Prospector (1999, NASA, pink) and SMART-1 (2006, ESA, white). All except the Apollo landers were unmanned probes. Luna 2 (1959) was the first man-made object to reach the surface of the Moon

23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a detailed lunar map, highlighting the remarkable journey of 34 spacecraft that impacted or landed on the Moon from the 1960s onwards. Each spacecraft is represented by colored markers, providing a visual narrative of their historical significance in space exploration. The white markers symbolize NASA's Ranger 7-9 missions (1964 to 1965), while red markers denote Soviet Union's Luna series including Luna 5,7-9,13, and more (1965 to 1976). Green markers represent NASA's Surveyor program (1966 to 1968), and black markers signify Lunar Orbiter missions (1966 to 1967). The blue markers stand for the iconic Apollo missions such as Apollo 11-12 and Apollo14-17 (1969 to1972) conducted by NASA. Notably, Luna2 holds its place in history as the first man-made object ever to reach the Moon's surface back in1959. Additional significant unmanned probes are also featured with pink representing Lunar Prospector launched by NASA in1999 and white marking SMART-1 launched by ESA in2006. This visually stunning lunar map not only celebrates human achievements but also highlights technological advancements made over time. It serves as a testament to our relentless pursuit of knowledge about our solar system while showcasing various landing sites, craters, maria, highlands, rilles, and even potential locations for future exploration. Photographed by Detlev van Ravenswaay for Science Photo Library; this image encapsulates both scientific curiosity and mankind's indomitable spirit of discovery.
