31"x27" (79x69cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 24x20 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 31x27 inches (787x685mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the Insignia of the African Company, a symbol that represents an important chapter in history. Incorporated in London in 1588, this emblem embodies various themes such as business, imperialism, trade, and colonialism. The hand-colored woodcut reproduction beautifully captures the essence of a 16th-century illustration. The image features an elephant at its center, representing strength and power. This majestic creature serves as a reminder of Africa's rich heritage and traditional roots. Surrounding the elephant are intricate details that reflect native artistry from that era. The insignia holds significant historical value as it signifies the establishment of commerce between England and Africa during this period. It represents a time when merchant companies sought to expand their influence across continents through international trade. As we delve into British history, we uncover how this company played a crucial role in shaping the British Empire's expansion during the 1500s. The African Company became instrumental in establishing colonies throughout Africa while fostering cultural exchange between English settlers and African natives. This print not only offers us a glimpse into our past but also prompts us to reflect on the complexities surrounding imperialism and colonization. It serves as a visual reminder of how intertwined global histories can be while highlighting both triumphs and challenges faced by nations involved in international trade centuries ago.
