Meteorite, SEM
Meteorite. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a fragment of an iron meteorite. Iron meteorites (siderites) are remnants from the formation of the solar system which fall to Earth from space. This is part of the Nantan meteorite that fell to Earth in China in 1516. It broke up in the air and its fragments can be found over an area of 1000 kilometres squared. It is composed of 90 per cent iron, with 7 per cent nickel and at least 30 other minerals and trace elements

23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a stunning close-up view of a fragment from an iron meteorite, captured using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The vibrant colors in this false-colored image highlight the intricate details and composition of this celestial rock. Iron meteorites, also known as siderites, are remnants from the early stages of our solar system's formation that have made their way to Earth from outer space. This particular piece is part of the Nantan meteorite, which fell in China back in 1516. As it entered Earth's atmosphere, it broke apart into numerous fragments scattered across an impressive area spanning 1000 square kilometers. Composed primarily of iron (90%) and nickel (7%), this meteorite also contains at least 30 other minerals and trace elements. Its unique composition provides valuable insights into the cosmological processes that shaped our universe billions of years ago. The intricate patterns visible on its surface tell a story of cosmic origins and offer scientists an opportunity to study these ancient materials up close. By utilizing advanced imaging techniques such as SEM, researchers can unravel the mysteries hidden within these extraterrestrial treasures. This striking photograph not only captures the beauty inherent in scientific exploration but also serves as a reminder of how interconnected we are with the vastness of space itself.
