Premium Framed Print : Klebsiella pneumoniae bacterium
Framed Photos from Science Photo Library
Klebsiella pneumoniae bacterium
False colour transmission electron micrograph (shadow technique) of Klebsiella pneumoniae, a rodlike bacterium associated with pneumonia & other respiratory infections in humans. Most Klebsiella species live harmlessly in the human respiratory, intestinal & urinogenital tracts. Other species are pathogenic. The hairlike structures fringing certain bacteria at certain times are called pili. There are several types of pili serving different functions; the best studied are the sex pili involved in the transfer of DNA from donor to receipent cells during conjugation. This cell is undergoing division (binary fission). Mag: X 17, 650 (at 35mm size)

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the Klebsiella pneumoniae bacterium, a rodlike microorganism that is commonly associated with respiratory infections such as pneumonia in humans. In this false-color transmission electron micrograph, the shadow technique highlights the intricate details of this bacterium. While most species of Klebsiella reside harmlessly within the human respiratory, intestinal, and urinogenital tracts, some strains can cause pathogenic infections. The hair-like structures seen fringing certain bacteria at specific times are known as pili. These pili serve various functions, with sex pili being extensively studied for their involvement in DNA transfer during conjugation between donor and recipient cells. The image also reveals that this particular cell is undergoing division through binary fission – a process by which one cell divides into two identical daughter cells. With a magnification of X 17,650 (at 35mm size), this transmission electron micrograph provides an extraordinary glimpse into the microscopic world of bacteria. As part of Science Photo Library's collection on microbiology and bacteriology, this photograph offers valuable insights into Klebsiella pneumoniae and its role in causing respiratory diseases. It serves as a reminder of both the beauty and complexity found within these tiny organisms that impact our health and well-being.
