Cretaceous of Brazil, prehistoric scene C013 / 7112
Cretaceous of Brazil. Artwork of a coastal lagoon scene reconstructed from fossils in the Crato Formation of Brazil (108 million years ago, during the Cretaceous). A Coxoplectoptera mayfly (upper left) rests on a shoot of a Magnolia-like flowering plant above a pollinating wasp (Cretosphex parvus). A camel spider (lower left) has caught a cricket that was eating the monocotyledon Kitzschophyllites flabellate. Two antlions (Baisopardus cryptohymen) are at lower right, a raptor (Santanaraptor) at centre, and two pterosaurs (Lacusovagus magnificens) overhead. Other plants are Isoetes quillworts and Ruffordia ferns

23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back in time to the Cretaceous period in Brazil, approximately 108 million years ago. The scene depicted here is a beautifully reconstructed coastal lagoon, meticulously pieced together from fossils found in the Crato Formation. In this prehistoric setting, we witness an array of fascinating creatures and plants that once thrived in this ancient ecosystem. A Coxoplectoptera mayfly gracefully perches on a shoot of a Magnolia-like flowering plant, while just below it, a pollinating wasp named Cretosphex parvus diligently goes about its important task. Meanwhile, at the lower left corner of the image, we spot a camel spider successfully capturing a cricket that had been feasting on the monocotyledon Kitzschophyllites flabellate. Two antlions can be seen nearby (Baisopardus cryptohymen), patiently waiting for their next prey. At the center of attention stands Santanaraptor, an impressive raptor ready for action. Overhead soar two pterosaurs called Lacusovagus magnificens, adding an element of grandeur to this primordial landscape. Amongst these remarkable creatures are various plants such as Isoetes quillworts and Ruffordia ferns that adorned this coastal lagoon during those ancient times. Richard Bizley's artwork brilliantly captures not only the diversity but also the intricate interplay between predator and prey within this long-lost world. It serves as a vivid reminder of how life has evolved over millions of years and offers us glimpses into our planet's rich natural history.
