Feathered dinosaur fossil, discovered in China.The head is at top. Imprints of feathers are seenaround the body and the forelimbs. More than athousand feathered dinosaur fossils have beenfound in the Liaoning province of China since themid 1990s. They date from about 125 million yearsago in the lower Cretaceous period. They aredromeosaurs, or raptors, a small group within thetheropod group of carnivorous dinosaurs. Somescientists think that these specimens could be themissing link between dinosaurs and birds.

Short-eared owl (Asio flammeus). This owl is found on all continents of the world except for Australia and Antarctica. It inhabits open country, particularly where there are large rodent populations, upon which it feeds. The short-eared owl can grow to 43 cm in length and weigh up to 475 grams.
