23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph depicts a convoy of supplies being transported to Fort Maud, situated in the North-West Frontier Province (NWFP) of British India, around the year 1910. The fort, which is exactly halfway between India and Afghanistan, served as a crucial outpost for the British Empire during its rule in the region. The supplies, essential for the upkeep of the garrison and the maintenance of the strategic border, are being carried by a combination of mules and trains. The rugged terrain of the Khyber Pass, a mountainous and historically significant pass linking Afghanistan and Pakistan, posed significant challenges for the transportation of goods. The mules, with their sure-footedness and ability to navigate steep and rocky terrain, were the preferred mode of transport for the supplies. The muleteers, dressed in traditional attire, can be seen carefully loading the supplies onto the animals. The trains, which were used to transport larger quantities of supplies, can be seen in the background, making their way through the narrow and winding pass. The North-West Frontier Province, also known as the 'North-West Territory' or 'North-West Borderlands,' was a strategically important region for both India and Afghanistan. The area was home to various ethnic and tribal groups, and the British sought to maintain control over the region to prevent any potential threats to their rule in India. The photograph provides a fascinating glimpse into the logistical challenges faced by the British during their rule in the region and the ingenuity and resilience of the people involved in transporting supplies to Fort Maud. The Khyber Pass, with its rich history and strategic importance, continues to be a significant border crossing between Pakistan and Afghanistan to this day.
