Vitamin B12 import proteins C015 / 9943
Vitamin B12 import proteins, molecular model. This complex is the import proteins btuC, btuD, and btuF. The first two together form BtuCD, an adenosine triphosphate (ATP)-binding cassette transporter. Its role is to translocate vitamin B12 from BtuF (a periplasmic binding protein) into the cytoplasm of the bacterium Escherichia coli. ATP-binding cassette transporters (ABC transporters) are being studied in relation to their role in a range of inherited diseases and processes, including resistance to tumours, and conditions such as cystic fibrosis

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the intricate molecular structure of Vitamin B12 import proteins C015 / 9943. The complex, consisting of btuC, btuD, and btuF proteins, forms BtuCD - an adenosine triphosphate (ATP)-binding cassette transporter. Its primary function is to facilitate the translocation of vitamin B12 from the periplasmic binding protein BtuF into the cytoplasm of Escherichia coli bacteria. The black background enhances the visual impact of this illustration, highlighting the bound and structural nature of these biochemical components. With a focus on biology and graphic representation, this artwork provides valuable insights into bacterial metabolism at a molecular level. Moreover, ATP-binding cassette transporters like BtuCD have gained significant attention in scientific research due to their potential involvement in inherited diseases such as cystic fibrosis and resistance to tumors. Scientists are actively studying these transporters to better understand their role in various biological processes. LAGUNA DESIGN/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY has masterfully captured this macromolecule's complexity through precise cut-outs and detailed visualization techniques. This print not only serves as a visually stunning piece but also contributes to our understanding of vital cellular mechanisms related to vitamin transport and disease resistance.
