Jigsaw Puzzle : False-colour SEM of human T-lymphocytes
Jigsaw Puzzles from Science Photo Library
False-colour SEM of human T-lymphocytes
False-colour scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of human T-lymphocytes. They are white blood cells, & one of the component cell types of the human immune system. T-lymphocytes (T-cells) different- iate in the thymus and then progress to the lymph nodes and spleen. They are distinct from the functionally different B-cells, which are derived from the bone marrow. T-cells are of primary importance in the cell-mediated immune response, but they also influence the actions of B-cells, whose immune role is determined by the antibodies incorporated into B-cell surface membranes. EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a false-colour scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of human T-lymphocytes, which are essential white blood cells and a vital component of the human immune system. These remarkable cells differentiate in the thymus before progressing to the lymph nodes and spleen. It is important to note that T-lymphocytes, also known as T-cells, differ significantly from B-cells, which have distinct functions and originate from the bone marrow. T-cells play a crucial role in the cell-mediated immune response, making them of primary importance in defending our bodies against harmful pathogens. However, their influence extends beyond this as they also impact B-cell actions. The immune role of B-cells relies on antibodies incorporated into their surface membranes. The magnified image reveals intricate details at x1800 magnification with a 35mm size frame. This microscopic view allows us to appreciate the complexity and beauty within our own bodies. The false-colour technique employed enhances specific features for better understanding. Science Photo Library has once again provided us with an extraordinary glimpse into the wonders of anatomy and immunology through this stunning photograph print. It serves as a reminder of how these tiny yet powerful cells work tirelessly to protect our health and well-being.
