Universe timeline, artwork

Big Bang and Evolution of Galaxies - The observable Universe is about 84 billion light years across. According to the standard view of cosmolog, the Universe underwend a brief period of super-fast expansion in its earliest moments. However, it doesn t look infinite because we can only see light from galaxies that has had time to reach us in the 13, 7 billion years since the Big Bang

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print titled "Universe Timeline" by Detlev van Ravenswaay takes us on a visual journey through the vast expanse of space and time. Against a striking black background, this artwork beautifully depicts the evolution of galaxies from the momentous event known as the Big Bang. The observable Universe, spanning an astonishing 84 billion light years across, is showcased in this intricate illustration. It reminds us that our understanding of cosmology has been shaped by scientific research and theories such as cosmic inflation and Einstein's principles. The image highlights how our Universe underwent a rapid expansion during its earliest moments, leading to the formation of galaxies over billions of years. However, it also emphasizes that despite its immense size, we can only perceive what lies within our reach - light from distant galaxies that has traveled for approximately 13.7 billion years since the Big Bang. With meticulous attention to detail, this artwork serves as both a historical map and an astronomical representation of our ever-expanding cosmos. It captures the beauty and complexity inherent in astrophysics while inviting contemplation about humanity's place in this grand tapestry. Detlev van Ravenswaay's masterpiece seamlessly combines science with artistry to create a thought-provoking piece that sparks curiosity about the origins and progression of our universe.
