Carduelis Caniceps, Grey-headed Goldfinch, Carduelis Spinoides, Yellow-breasted Greenfinch. Birds from the Himalaya Mountains, engraving 1831 by Elizabeth Gould and John Gould. John Gould was working as a taxidermist, he was known as the bird-stuffer, by the Zoological Society. Goulds fascination with birds from the east began in the late 1820s when a collection of birds from the Himalayan mountains arrived at the Societys museum and Gould conceived the idea of publishing a volume of imperial folio sized hand-coloured lithographs of the eighty species, with figures of a hundred birds. Elizabeth Gould made the drawings and transferred them to the large lithographic stones. They are called Gould plates

This print showcases the exquisite beauty of two bird species found in the Himalaya Mountains: the Carduelis Caniceps, also known as Grey-headed Goldfinch, and the Carduelis Spinoides, commonly referred to as Yellow-breasted Greenfinch. Engraved by Elizabeth Gould and John Gould in 1831, this artwork is a testament to their incredible talent and passion for ornithology. John Gould's fascination with birds from the east began when a collection of avian specimens arrived at the Zoological Society's museum in the late 1820s. Inspired by these exotic creatures, he conceived the idea of publishing an extraordinary volume featuring hand-colored lithographs of eighty different species. Elizabeth Gould meticulously made drawings of each bird which were then transferred onto large lithographic stones.
