EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the mesmerizing sight of molten sulphur flowing over freshly broken deposits at the Kawah Ijen volcano in Java, Indonesia. Taken by Richard Roscoe on August 13,2011, this image showcases the raw power and beauty of nature's volcanic forces. The vibrant yellow hues dominate the frame, as liquid sulphur cascades down the rocky terrain. The volcanic rocks provide a stark contrast against the intense colors of molten lava, creating a visually striking composition. With no people present in the shot, it emphasizes the untouched and untamed nature of this geological wonder. Shot during daylight hours in Southeast Asia, this photograph perfectly encapsulates both science and artistry. It serves as a testament to Earth's geology and highlights how minerals like sulphur can transform into fluid-like substances when exposed to extreme heat. Richard Roscoe's keen eye for detail is evident in this close-up shot that allows viewers to appreciate every intricate texture and movement within the flowing sulphur. This image not only appeals to those with an interest in geoscience but also captivates anyone who appreciates natural wonders captured through photography.
