Premium Framed Print : Total lunar eclipse, partial phase
Framed Photos from Science Photo Library
Total lunar eclipse, partial phase
Lunar eclipse. Moon during the partially-eclipsed phase of a total eclipse, just a few minutes before all of its surface becomes darkened. Lunar eclipses are caused when the Moon enters the shadow cast by the Earth. Even during a total lunar eclipse the Moon does not generally disappear. It is still visible due to the sunlight refracted onto its surface by the Earths atmosphere. The Moon appears red/brown because the blue light components of sunlight are scattered by dust particles in the atmosphere. Photographed on the night of 3-4 April 1996

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the mesmerizing beauty of a total lunar eclipse in its partial phase. Just moments before the moon's surface is entirely darkened, we witness this celestial event at its most intriguing stage. Lunar eclipses occur when the moon enters Earth's shadow, and even during a total eclipse, it does not vanish completely from sight. The sunlight refracted onto its surface by our planet's atmosphere allows us to still behold its presence. In this image, we see the moon adorned in shades of red and brown, resulting from the scattering of blue light components by dust particles suspended in our atmosphere. Taken on the night of April 3-4,1996, this photograph showcases not only an astronomical phenomenon but also serves as a reminder of humanity's fascination with space exploration and understanding our place within the cosmos. As we gaze upon this ethereal scene filled with clouds crossing over a crescent moon, it sparks curiosity about planetary dynamics and cosmology. Science Photo Library has masterfully captured this momentous occasion for all science enthusiasts to appreciate and ponder upon.
