Keck I and II telescopes on Mauna Kea, Hawaii
Keck telescopes. Domes of the Keck I (at left) and Keck II optical telescopes seen at sunset at the Mauna Kea observatory in Hawaii, USA. The Orion constellation is seen above them in the sky. Each telescope has a 10 metre diameter mirror to focus light. The mirrors, made up of 36 hexagonal units, are mounted on computer-controlled motors that make tiny adjustments to keep astronomical objects in precise focus. The two telescopes can be used to observe the same object and can have their signals combined by interferometry to obtain a more accurate image. In 1997 the Keck telescopes are the largest optical telescopes in the world

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This breathtaking print captures the majestic Keck I and II telescopes on Mauna Kea, Hawaii. As the sun sets over the Mauna Kea observatory, the domes of these optical telescopes stand tall against a vibrant sky. The Orion constellation shines brightly above them, adding to the celestial spectacle. These remarkable telescopes boast 10-meter diameter mirrors composed of 36 hexagonal units. Equipped with computer-controlled motors, they make minute adjustments to maintain precise focus on astronomical objects. This cutting-edge technology allows scientists to capture incredibly detailed images of our vast universe. What makes these telescopes truly exceptional is their ability to work in tandem. By combining their signals through interferometry, researchers can obtain even more accurate images and delve deeper into cosmic mysteries. In fact, at the time this photo was taken in 1997, these were recognized as the largest optical telescopes worldwide. The significance of this image goes beyond its aesthetic appeal; it represents humanity's insatiable curiosity about space and our relentless pursuit of knowledge. It serves as a reminder that through scientific exploration and technological advancements like those found in the Keck telescopes, we continue to unravel the secrets hidden within our solar system and beyond.
