Eye test. Snellen eye test chart. View of a Snellen eye test chart used

Snellen eye test chart. View of a Snellen eye test chart used for measuring visual acuity. A patient stands a set distance (usually six metres) from the chart, and covers one eye before reading as far down the chart as they can. The letters decrease in size lower down the chart. If they are unable to read a sufficient amount of the chart, lenses of different strengths are used until their vision is sharp enough to allow recognition of the smallest letters. In conjunction with other visual tests, this test allows the diagnosis of eye disorders such as long- and shortsightedness (hypermetropia and myopia). These disorders can be corrected with spectacles or contact lenses

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the essence of an eye test, showcasing a Snellen eye test chart used to measure visual acuity. The image showcases a patient standing at a specific distance from the chart, typically six meters, with one eye covered. As they read down the chart, the letters gradually decrease in size. If their vision falls short and they are unable to read enough of the chart, lenses of varying strengths come into play until their vision sharpens enough to discern even the tiniest letters. The significance of this diagnostic tool lies in its ability to aid in identifying various eye disorders such as long- and shortsightedness (hypermetropia and myopia). By working hand-in-hand with other visual tests, this comprehensive examination enables healthcare professionals to accurately diagnose these conditions. Moreover, it paves the way for effective corrective measures like spectacles or contact lenses that can significantly improve patients' eyesight. Within this still life composition lies an amalgamation of technique, medicine, equipment, and ophthalmology expertise. It serves as a reminder of how advancements in healthcare have revolutionized our understanding and treatment options for ocular ailments. This photograph is not just visually striking but also symbolizes hope for those facing challenges related to their vision by offering them access to accurate diagnostics and appropriate interventions.
