Artwork of Phobos spacecraft in orbit around Mars

Artists impression of the Soviet Phobos spacecraft in orbit around Mars in early 1988, prior to its final approach to Phobos (upper right), the larger of the two small Martian moons. The spacecraft was launched in July 1988. It is scheduled to spend 120 days orbiting Mars, making observations of the planets atmosphere & magnetosphere & taking high-resolution images of the surface. It will then approach Phobos, descending to within 50 metres of the moons surface before releasing two lander probes. The view of Mars in this picture shows the three Tharsis volcanos, with the giant Olympus Mons volcano beyond them

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the remarkable artwork of the Phobos spacecraft in orbit around Mars, as envisioned by an artist in early 1988. The Soviet spacecraft, launched just a few months later in July 1988, embarked on a groundbreaking mission to explore the mysteries of the Red Planet and its enigmatic moon, Phobos. In this stunning depiction, we witness the spacecraft hovering gracefully above Mars before commencing its final approach towards Phobos, which can be seen gleaming in the upper right corner. Prior to reaching its destination, the Phobos spacecraft spent 120 days meticulously observing Mars' atmosphere and magnetosphere while capturing breathtaking high-resolution images of its surface. As our gaze shifts towards Mars itself within this image, we are treated to a mesmerizing view of three Tharsis volcanoes dominating the landscape. Beyond them lies Olympus Mons - an awe-inspiring giant volcano that stands tall amidst Martian terrain. The significance of this artwork lies not only in its artistic brilliance but also in commemorating a pivotal moment in space exploration history. It symbolizes humanity's relentless pursuit of knowledge and our insatiable curiosity about worlds beyond our own. This extraordinary piece from Science Photo Library serves as a testament to mankind's indomitable spirit and unwavering determination to unravel the secrets hidden within our vast universe.
