Camel Pegasus Sopwith Takes

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
A Sopwith 2F1 Camel Taking Off from HMS Pegasus: A Feat of Naval Aviation History This photograph captures the moment of takeoff for a Sopwith 2F1 Camel biplane from the deck of HMS Pegasus, a British Royal Navy armored cruiser, during the early years of naval aviation. The image, taken by an unknown photographer, offers a unique glimpse into the past, showcasing the bravery and technical innovation of the early aviators. The Sopwith 2F1 Camel, a single-seat biplane, was a significant military aircraft during World War I. Its distinctive design, featuring a pusher propeller and a synchronized machine gun, made it a formidable weapon in the skies. The Camel proved to be an essential asset for the Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Naval Air Service, contributing to numerous victories in the air. The photograph reveals the intricate process of launching an aircraft from a moving ship. A team of sailors, known as 'aviation mechanics,' can be seen in the background, assisting in the takeoff. They hold onto ropes attached to the plane's wings and tail, providing additional balance and stability as the pilot, clad in a leather helmet and goggles, revs up the engine. Once the plane gains enough speed, the sailors release their ropes, and the Sopwith 2F1 Camel takes off, soaring into the sky above the vast expanse of the ocean. The image encapsulates the spirit of adventure and the groundbreaking achievements in aviation history. This photograph is a testament to the ingenuity and determination of the pioneers of naval aviation, who braved the challenges of launching and landing aircraft on the limited space of a moving ship. The Sopwith 2F1 Camel's successful takeoff from HMS Pegasus marked a significant milestone in the development of naval aviation and the eventual integration of aircraft into naval warfare.
