23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This exquisitely detailed hand-colored engraving depicts the Many-colored Rush-tyrant, Tachuris rubrigastra, also known as the Golden-crested Wren or Byron's Wren (Regulus byronensis). The image was created by Harriet or Edward Griffith, based on an illustration by C.M. Curtis, from a specimen in the collection of Reverend Hennah. The engraving is taken from "The Animal Kingdom" by the renowned French naturalist, Baron Georges Cuvier, published in London by Whittaker in 1828. The Many-colored Rush-tyrant is a small, vibrant bird native to South America. The male is characterized by its brilliant golden crest, chestnut-colored back, and olive-green wings and tail. The female, on the other hand, has a brown crest and a more subdued coloration. These birds are typically found in wetland habitats, such as marshes and swamps, where they feed on insects and other small invertebrates. The intricate engraving technique used in this print captures the Many-colored Rush-tyrant's intricate plumage and delicate features with remarkable accuracy. The attention to detail is a testament to the skill and artistry of the Griffiths and Curtis, who were renowned for their natural history illustrations during the early 19th century. This print is an essential addition to any collection of natural history or ornithology, providing a fascinating glimpse into the rich biodiversity of South America during the time of Cuvier's groundbreaking work in the field of zoology.
