23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This striking photograph captures the beauty and intrigue of the Choiseul Pigeon, Microgoura meeki, a bird species presumed extinct. The image, taken by renowned wildlife photographer Harry Taylor in 2009, showcases a well-preserved specimen of this rare avian species. The Choiseul Pigeon, also known as the Choiseul Crested Pigeon or Microgoura meeki, was native to the Choiseul Island in the Solomon Islands. This pigeon was characterized by its distinctive white underparts, brown and grey plumage, and distinctive crest of feathers on its head. The Choiseul Pigeon was first discovered in 1895, but its population declined rapidly due to habitat loss and hunting. The last confirmed sighting of this bird in the wild was in the 1990s, and despite extensive searches, no further evidence of its existence has been found. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) declared the Choiseul Pigeon extinct in 2013. This photograph is a poignant reminder of the beauty and fragility of the natural world. The Choiseul Pigeon's extinction is a loss not only for the scientific community but also for the people of Choiseul Island, who held the bird in high cultural significance. The photograph, with its clear label identifying the species and the year it was taken, serves as an important record of this lost avian treasure. The Choiseul Pigeon belongs to the Columbidae family, which includes pigeons and doves. It is part of the larger group of birds known as Columbiformes, which also includes the doves, pigeons, and their allies. The Choiseul Pigeon is a Sauropsida, a group of reptile-like animals that includes birds and their closest living relatives, the reptiles. The photograph's side view allows us to appreciate the bird's unique features, such as its curved beak and the intricate patterns on its feathers.
