Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This engraving depicts the renowned German Jewish philosopher, Moses Mendelssohn (1729-1786), standing before the gates of Potsdam, eagerly awaiting an audience with King Frederick II of Prussia. The image, based on a work by Daniel Chodowiecki from 1792, offers a glimpse into the historical encounter between two influential figures of the modern age. Mendelssohn, a pioneering thinker and writer, played a significant role in the Haskalah, or Jewish Enlightenment, movement. He advocated for the integration of Jews into German society and the adoption of secular learning. King Frederick II, also known as Frederick the Great, was a powerful monarch known for his patronage of the arts and sciences, as well as his military prowess. The scene unfolds in the 18th century, a time of great change and upheaval in Europe. The meeting between Mendelssohn and Frederick II represented a pivotal moment in the history of Jewish-German relations, as the philosopher sought to engage the king in a dialogue about the role of Jews in the kingdom and the potential for mutual understanding and cooperation. The engraving captures the sense of anticipation and importance of this encounter, with Mendelssohn's determined expression and the grandeur of the Potsdam gates in the background. The image stands as a testament to the enduring power of intellectual curiosity and the potential for dialogue to bridge divides, even in the most complex and challenging historical contexts.
