17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning map print, titled "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum" or "The Theatre of the World," is a first edition masterpiece created by the renowned Flemish cartographer Abraham Ortelius in 1574. Produced in Antwerp, the heart of the Spanish Netherlands in Flanders, this map is a testament to the advancements in cartography during the Modern Age. The map primarily focuses on the African continent, which is depicted with remarkable detail and accuracy for the time. The intricate depiction of the African coastline, islands, and interior regions reflects the expanding European knowledge of the continent, as explorers and traders ventured further into uncharted territories. One of the most intriguing features of this map is the presence of various animals, monsters, and ships scattered across the African landscape. These illustrations were common in maps of the era, often serving to add a sense of wonder and mystery to the unexplored regions of the world. The map is also notable for its detailed depiction of the Mediterranean Sea, the Red Sea, and the Atlantic Ocean. The presence of various vessels and a sea monster in the Atlantic underscores the importance of maritime exploration during this period. This beautiful map is now housed in the Library of Catalonia in Barcelona, Spain, a testament to its historical significance and enduring value as a piece of cartographic history. The intricate details, vibrant colors, and meticulous craftsmanship make this map a true treasure for anyone interested in the history of geography and cartography.
