17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

This striking photograph captures Lieut. Gen. Sir John Stevens Cowans (1862-1921), a prominent figure in the British Army during the First World War. Cowans served a distinguished military career, holding the position of Quarter-master General and being a member of the Army Council throughout the conflict. His expertise in logistics and supply played a crucial role in the success of the British military efforts. Born in 1862, Cowans joined the British Army in 1881 as a second lieutenant in the Royal Engineers. He quickly rose through the ranks, demonstrating exceptional leadership and organizational skills. By the turn of the 20th century, he had become a colonel and was appointed as the Assistant Adjutant-General in the War Office. During the First World War, Cowans' strategic acumen was put to the test. As Quarter-master General, he oversaw the supply and logistics for the British Expeditionary Force in France. His ability to ensure that troops were well-equipped and well-fed was instrumental in maintaining morale and enabling the military to focus on the strategic objectives. Cowans' contributions extended beyond logistics, as he was also a member of the Army Council, providing valuable insights and guidance on military policy. After the war, Cowans continued to serve in various roles within the British military, retiring as a Lieutenant General in 1921. His legacy as a key figure in the British Army during the First World War endures, and his accomplishments continue to be studied by military historians.
