23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph, taken in the North African country of Algeria in the year 1908, depicts a group of local domino players in an intense and focused game. The image transports us back in time to the early 1900s, during the French colonial rule of Algeria. The scene is set in a dimly lit room, with the only source of light coming from a single oil lamp suspended from the ceiling. The players, dressed in traditional African attire, wear turbans and long robes, their faces illuminated by the flickering light. Their intense concentration is palpable as they carefully place their dominoes on the table, their hands steady and sure. Dominos, a popular game in many cultures, is believed to have originated in the Caribbean and was introduced to North Africa through the transatlantic slave trade. By the late 1800s and early 1900s, it had become a common pastime in Algeria, particularly among the local population. This photograph offers a rare glimpse into the daily life of Algerians during the colonial era, providing a window into their traditions and customs. It also serves as a reminder of the rich cultural heritage that exists in North Africa, a region with a complex and fascinating history. Despite the passage of time, the game of dominos continues to be popular in Algeria and throughout the African continent. This photograph is not only a testament to the enduring appeal of the game but also a reminder of the resilience and strength of African cultures in the face of colonialism and globalization.
