17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This striking photograph captures the USS New York, an American cruiser, engaged in a 10-round boxing bout on the occasion of the anniversary of the Battle of Santiago de Cuba on July 3, 1899. The image, taken using a dry plate negative glass 8 x 10 in, provides a glimpse into the unique blend of military and recreational activities that took place aboard naval vessels during this era. The USS New York, a formidable warship of the United States Navy, is shown anchored in a tranquil body of water, with the crew and sailors gathered on the deck to witness the boxing match. The men, dressed in their naval uniforms, display a range of emotions, from intense focus and determination to lighthearted amusement. The photograph, created by an unknown photographer and published by Detroit Publishing Company, offers a fascinating glimpse into the daily life of the crew and the camaraderie that existed among them. The image is a testament to the rich history of naval warfare and the unique experiences of those who served on these vessels during the late 19th century. The USS New York played a significant role in the Spanish-American War, participating in the Battle of Santiago de Cuba, which marked a turning point in the conflict. The anniversary commemoration of this battle, as depicted in the photograph, highlights the importance of military tradition and the morale-boosting role of recreational activities for soldiers and sailors during times of war.
