23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
Costumes de Différents Pays," or "Costumes of Different Countries," is an engraving by Jacques Grasset de Saint-Sauveur and LF Labrousse, created around 1797. This full-length image depicts a Hawaiian dancer, specifically identified as a "Danseur des Ysles Sandwich," or Dancer of the Sandwich Islands. The dancer is shown in his traditional attire, which includes a bare chest, bare feet adorned with ornate footwear, a helmet, and a colorful skirt made from tapa cloth. The dancer's arms are adorned with bracelets, and he wears a necklace and a waist belt. His face is partially obscured by a mask, adding an intriguing element to the image. The engraving is a testament to the rich cultural heritage of the 18th century, showcasing the diverse and unique clothing and accessories of different countries. The dancer's pose is dynamic and expressive, suggesting that he is in the midst of a lively dance performance. The image is hand-tinted, adding vibrant colors to the already intricate details of the dancer's costume. The "Costumes de Différents Pays" series was a popular anthropological and ethnographic work of its time, documenting the clothing and accessories of various indigenous peoples from around the world. This particular image of the Hawaiian dancer is now part of the collection of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, providing a valuable historical record of the rich cultural heritage of the Pacific Islands. The image is a fascinating glimpse into the past, offering a glimpse into the lives and traditions of the people of Hawaii during the late 18th century.
