23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
The print titled "BRITAIN AND CIVIL WAR, 1862" is a powerful American cartoon from 1862 that depicts Britain's aid to the Confederacy during the American Civil War. The image also highlights the hardships endured by the British working class as a result of trade disruption with the United States. In this thought-provoking illustration, we see a group of impoverished British families gathered together in an interior setting. They represent the struggling working class who have been greatly affected by the war and its impact on trade. Symbolism plays a significant role in conveying this message, with various elements representing different aspects of their plight. A personification of Britain, known as John Bull, is shown delivering barrels labeled "corn" and "flour" symbolizing food scarcity and starvation faced by these families due to disrupted trade routes. A vendor selling butter represents economic struggles faced by small businesses during this time. The presence of rifles and bayonets signifies not only military involvement but also political tensions between America and England. The hat worn by one character suggests English influence on Confederate politics. Overall, this poignant cartoon serves as both an allegory for Britain's support to the Confederacy and a reminder of how ordinary people bear the brunt of international conflicts through economic hardship. It captures a moment in history when global events reverberated throughout societies far beyond their immediate borders.
