23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This hand-colored engraving, titled "Specimens of volcanic matter taken from the inside of the crater of Vesuvius" offers a glimpse into the awe-inspiring world of geology and natural phenomena. Created by Pietro Fabris in 1776, this print is part of Sir William Hamilton's renowned work, Campi Phlegraei: Observations on the Volcanoes of the Two Sicilies. The image showcases an assortment of geological treasures collected from within Vesuvius' fiery crater. The variety and scientific taxonomy displayed here are a testament to Hamilton's meticulous research during his exploration. From fistular salts to variegated rocks and stones, each specimen represents a unique fragment that unravels the mysteries hidden beneath our Earth's surface. Among these samples, one can discern pumice stones with their porous texture and lightweight nature – remnants formed through volcanic eruptions. Tufa formations also make an appearance; these calcium-rich deposits offer insights into ancient hydrothermal activity within Vesuvius. As we gaze upon this engraving, we are transported back to a time when enlightenment thinkers like Hamilton sought to understand and classify our planet's wonders. This piece not only serves as a visual record but also encapsulates the spirit of scientific discovery prevalent during that era. Intriguingly beautiful yet scientifically significant, this print reminds us that even amidst chaos and destruction lies an opportunity for knowledge-seeking minds to unravel nature's secrets.
