Giant solar flare, satellite image

Giant solar flare. Satellite image showing the development of a giant solar flare (bright) erupting from the surface of the Sun (centre). The Sun itself is removed from the image and the white circle (centre) shows the approximate size of the Suns visible disc (photosphere). Classified as an X-28, this is the largest solar flare ever recorded (as of 2012). It is so powerful that the X-ray intensity is beyond the capacity of the telescopes sensors. As a result the X-28 classification is only approximate and later analysis suggested increasing this estimate to X-45. Imaged by the LASCO ( Large Angle and Spectrometric Coronagraph) C3 instrument on the SOHO (Solar and Heliospheric Observatory) spacecraft, on 4th November 2003

A2 (59.4 x 42cm) Poster Print

Bring the awe-inspiring wonders of space into your home or office with Media Storehouse's collection of Poster Prints. This captivating image captures the explosive power of a giant solar flare as it erupts from the surface of the Sun. Witness the raw energy and dynamic beauty of our star with this stunning satellite image from Science Photo Library. A must-have for space enthusiasts and anyone seeking to add a touch of wonder to their surroundings.

A2 Poster (59.4 x 42cm, 23.4" x 16.5" inches) printed on 170gsm Satin Poster Paper. Securely packaged, rolled and inserted into a strong mailing tube and shipped tracked. Poster Prints are of comparable archival quality to our Photographic prints, they are simply printed on thinner Poster Paper. Whilst we only use Photographic Prints in our frames, you can frame Poster Prints if they are carefully supported to prevent sagging over time.

Poster prints are budget friendly enlarged prints in standard poster paper sizes (A0, A1, A2, A3 etc). Whilst poster paper is sometimes thinner and less durable than our other paper types, they are still ok for framing and should last many years. Our Archival Quality Photo Prints and Fine Art Paper Prints are printed on higher quality paper and the choice of which largely depends on your budget.

Estimated Image Size (if not cropped) is 42cm x 42cm (16.5" x 16.5")

Estimated Product Size is 42cm x 59.4cm (16.5" x 23.4")

These are individually made so all sizes are approximate

Artwork printed orientated as per the preview above, with landscape (horizontal) or portrait (vertical) orientation to match the source image.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the awe-inspiring power and beauty of our Sun. Captured by the LASCO C3 instrument on the SOHO spacecraft, this satellite image reveals the development of a colossal solar flare erupting from the surface of our star. The immense size and intensity of this phenomenon are truly remarkable. The white circle at the center represents the approximate size of the Sun's visible disc, known as photosphere, while excluding its actual presence in this image. Classified as an X-28 solar flare, it holds the record for being one of the largest ever recorded up until 2012. However, due to its overwhelming X-ray intensity surpassing telescopic sensors' capacity, later analysis suggested that its classification should be increased to X-45. The vibrant blue hues surrounding this massive eruption highlight its extreme activity within our solar system. This extraordinary event signifies a powerful release of high-energy particles into space, creating a stunning display in both astrophysics and astronomy. As we marvel at this stellar spectacle captured on November 4th, 2003, let us appreciate how far humanity has come in understanding and observing such celestial phenomena through advanced instruments like LASCO C3. This photograph serves as a testament to mankind's continuous exploration and fascination with our vast universe beyond Earth's boundaries.
