Coloured MRI brain scan of Sturge-Weber syndrome

Sturge-Weber syndrome. Coloured magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan of a brain (orange/blue) with Sturge-Weber syndrome. The brain is seen in horiz- ontal (axial) section, with the front of the brain at top. The brains fluid-filled ventricles (upper centre & lower right) are green. Part of the brain has become calcified (blue, lower left). Other symptoms include angioma tumours in the choroid of the eye and the meninges membranes that cover the brain, as well as port-wine nevi on the face and glaucoma of the eye. People with this congenital disorder are mentally handicapped and may suffer from epileptic seizures. MRI uses radio waves and a powerful magnet to produce slice body images

Poster Prints are of comparable archival quality to our Photographic prints, they are simply printed on thinner Poster Paper. Whilst we only use Photographic Prints in our frames, you can frame Poster Prints if they are carefully supported to prevent sagging over time.

Poster prints are budget friendly enlarged prints in standard poster paper sizes (A0, A1, A2, A3 etc). EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a coloured MRI brain scan of Sturge-Weber syndrome, a rare congenital disorder. The vibrant orange and blue hues highlight the intricate details of the affected brain. In this horizontal section, with the front at the top, we can observe various abnormalities associated with this condition. The green areas represent the fluid-filled ventricles within the brain. These structures play a crucial role in cerebrospinal fluid circulation but appear enlarged due to Sturge-Weber syndrome. Additionally, part of the brain has become calcified, depicted by the striking blue shade in the lower left corner of the image. Sturge-Weber syndrome is not limited to neurological manifestations; it also presents angioma tumors in both eye choroids and meninges membranes covering the brain. Furthermore, individuals with this disorder may exhibit port-wine nevi on their faces and suffer from glaucoma. Mental handicap and epileptic seizures are common challenges faced by those living with Sturge-Weber syndrome. This MRI scan provides valuable insights into understanding how these structural abnormalities contribute to such symptoms. By utilizing radio waves and powerful magnets, MRI technology allows us to capture detailed slice body images like this one. Thanks to Science Photo Library's dedication to medical photography, we gain a deeper appreciation for conditions like Sturge-Weber syndrome while advancing our knowledge in healthcare research and treatment options for affected individuals.
