Vitamin K2, molecular model

Vitamin K2, molecular model. The chemical formula for vitamin K2, also called menaquinone, is C31.H40.O2. Atoms are represented as spheres and are colour-coded: carbon (blue), hydrogen (gold) and oxygen (red). While vitamin K1 is found in dark green leafy vegetables, meat, dairy products and eggs, vitamin K2 is found only in bacteria and foods made from fermented soya beans. Vitamin K is necessary for blood clotting and bone growth. Deficiency can lead to uncontrolled internal bleeding, and mineral deposits on cartilage regions and on the inner walls of blood vessels

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the intricate molecular model of Vitamin K2, also known as menaquinone. The chemical formula C31. H40. O2 is visually represented by vibrant spheres color-coded to represent different atoms: blue for carbon, gold for hydrogen, and red for oxygen. While its counterpart Vitamin K1 can be found in various food sources like dark green leafy vegetables, meat, dairy products, and eggs; Vitamin K2 is exclusively sourced from bacteria and fermented soya beans. This essential vitamin plays a crucial role in blood clotting and bone growth. The absence of sufficient Vitamin K can lead to severe consequences such as uncontrolled internal bleeding or the formation of mineral deposits on cartilage regions and inner walls of blood vessels. Hence, it is vital to maintain an adequate intake of this nutrient through diet or supplements. This print not only highlights the structural beauty of this biochemical compound but also serves as a reminder of the importance of incorporating Vitamin K into our daily nutrition. Its space-fill structure emphasizes its antioxidant properties while emphasizing the significance it holds within our bodies. Captured by Science Photo Library, this image provides a fascinating insight into the world of biochemistry and reminds us that even at a molecular level, nutrients like Vitamin K are indispensable for maintaining optimal health.
