Voyager probe trajectory, artwork C018 / 0285

Voyager probe trajectory, artwork. Artwork of the trajectory of one of the Voyager probes as it travels out of the solar system. NASAs two unmanned Voyager probes were sent to the outer planets in 1977. The probes beamed back the first close-up images of the outer gas giant planets. The probes have exceeded the solar systems escape velocity, and continue to beam back data as they head out into interstellar space. Voyager 1 reached the heliopause, the boundary between the heliosphere and interstellar space, in around August 2012. As of 2013, Voyager 1 is over 18 billion kilometres from the Sun

EDITORS COMMENTS
This artwork, titled "Voyager Probe Trajectory" takes us on a visual journey through the vastness of space. Created by Claus Lunau, this print beautifully illustrates the trajectory of one of NASA's Voyager probes as it embarks on an extraordinary expedition beyond our solar system. In 1977, these unmanned Voyager probes were launched with a mission to explore the outer planets. They revolutionized our understanding of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune by transmitting back breathtaking close-up images that had never been seen before. Having surpassed the solar system's escape velocity, these intrepid probes continue to transmit valuable data even as they venture into interstellar space. In August 2012, Voyager 1 reached a significant milestone: crossing the heliopause - the boundary between our sun's protective bubble (heliosphere) and interstellar space. As we gaze upon this artwork, we are reminded of humanity's insatiable curiosity and relentless pursuit of knowledge. The sheer distance covered is mind-boggling; Voyager 1 currently resides over 18 billion kilometers away from its home star. Lunau's illustration not only captures the technological marvels behind this incredible feat but also evokes a sense of wonderment about what lies beyond our familiar celestial neighborhood. It serves as a testament to human ingenuity and reminds us that there are no limits when it comes to exploring the mysteries that await us in the cosmos.
