Infrared mosaic of the Heart and Soul nebulae in the constellation Cassiopeia

Infrared mosaic of the Heart and Soul nebulae in the constellation Cassiopeia. Located about 6, 000 light-years from Earth, the Heart and Soul nebulae form a vast star-forming complex that makes up part of the Perseus spiral arm of our Milky Way galaxy. The nebula to the right is the Heart, designated IC 1805 and named after its resemblance to a human heart. To the left is the Soul nebula, also known as the Embryo nebula, IC 1848 or W5. The two nebulae are both massive star-making factories, marked by giant bubbles that were blown into surrounding dust by radiation and winds from the stars.
Also visible near the bottom of this image are two galaxies, Maffei 1 and Maffei 2. Both galaxies contain billions of stars and, at about 10 million light-years away, are well outside our Milky Way yet relatively close compared to most galaxies. Maffei 1 is the bluish elliptical object and Maffei 2 is the spiral galaxy

EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning print captures the mesmerizing beauty of the Heart and Soul nebulae in the constellation Cassiopeia. Located approximately 6,000 light-years away from Earth, these nebulae form a magnificent star-forming complex within our Milky Way galaxy's Perseus spiral arm. The Heart nebula, also known as IC 1805, is aptly named due to its uncanny resemblance to a human heart. On the other side lies the Soul nebula, alternatively called Embryo nebula or IC 1848/W5. Both of these celestial wonders are colossal factories for creating new stars and are characterized by enormous bubbles formed by radiation and stellar winds that have blown into surrounding dust. As we marvel at their ethereal glow and intricate patterns, it becomes evident that nature's creative forces know no bounds. In this image, we are treated not only to the breathtaking sight of these nebulas but also two galaxies nestled near the bottom: Maffei 1 and Maffei 2. These distant galaxies lie about 10 million light-years away from us but still relatively close compared to most others in our vast universe. Maffei 1 appears as a bluish elliptical object while Maffei 2 showcases its captivating spiral structure. As we contemplate this awe-inspiring photograph captured by Stocktrek Images, let us be reminded of how small we truly are in comparison to the grandeur of space and how fortunate we are to witness such cosmic wonders through artistry like this print offers.
