Twenty new almshouses at Greenside, Greatham, were dedicated and blessed by the Bishop of Durham, John Habgood. He was assisted at the ceremony by the Rt. Rev A.K Hamilton, Bishop of Jarrow, and Dr J.A Ramsbotham, Assistant Bishop of Newcastle, who is a trustee for the Hospital of God at Greatham, a foundation dating from 1273. 8th June 1974
