This print showcases a remarkable artwork titled "Road Gorge Naples 1782" by Thomas Jones, a British artist from Trevonen, Wales. Created in the late eighteenth century during his time in Rome, this watercolor masterpiece demonstrates Jones' innovative approaches to landscape art. Using gum arabic glazes and graphite on a sheet measuring approximately 14 3/4 x 19 1/8 inches (375 x 485 cm), Jones skillfully captures the subtle and expressive potential of the medium. The result is an exquisite light-filled image that transports viewers to the stunning road gorge of Naples. Jones was part of an innovative coterie of British artists who worked together in Rome at that time. His unique style allowed him to create landscapes with a distinct sense of depth and atmosphere. This particular piece highlights his ability to capture both the grandeur and intimacy of nature. After completing this work, Jones brought it back to London where it was exhibited in 1783.
