Created in the late eighteenth century during his time in Rome, this watercolor masterpiece demonstrates Jones' innovative approaches to landscape art. Using gum arabic glazes and graphite on a sheet measuring approximately 14 3/4 x 19 1/8 inches (375 x 485 cm), Jones skillfully captures the subtle and expressive potential of the medium. Jones was part of an innovative coterie of British artists who worked together in Rome at that time. His unique style allowed him to create landscapes with a distinct sense of depth and atmosphere.
