Playful wild colts (Equus ferus) in Steens Mountain, Oregon, USA
The wild horse (Equus ferus) is a species of the genus Equus, which includes as subspecies the modern domesticated horse (Equus ferus caballus) as well as the undomesticated tarpan (Equus ferus ferus, now extinct), and the endangered Przewalskis horse (Equus ferus przewalskii). Przewalskis horse had reached the brink of extinction but was reintroduced successfully back into the wild. The tarpan became extinct in the 19th century, though it is a possible ancestor of the domestic horse; it roamed the steppes of Eurasia at the time of domestication

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the essence of wild beauty as playful colts roam freely in the breathtaking landscape of Steens Mountain, Oregon, USA. These magnificent creatures belong to the species Equus ferus, which encompasses various subspecies including the modern domesticated horse and the endangered Przewalski's horse. Sadly, one subspecies known as the tarpan became extinct in the 19th century but is believed to be a possible ancestor of our beloved domestic horses. The image showcases these spirited colts engaging in their natural behavior, reminding us of their untamed nature and resilience. Against a backdrop of serene tranquility, they exude an air of freedom that only wild animals possess. Their pure white coats stand out against the vibrant scenery, creating a striking contrast that further emphasizes their majestic presence. Danita Delimont skillfully captures this moment with her lens, allowing us to appreciate not only their physical beauty but also their intrinsic value within our ecosystem. This photograph serves as a reminder that despite facing numerous challenges over time, such as near extinction for some subspecies like Przewalski's horse, conservation efforts can successfully reintroduce them back into their natural habitats. Displayed at Fine Art Storehouse without any commercial intentions or affiliations mentioned here (as per request), this print invites viewers to marvel at these playful wild colts while contemplating humanity's role in preserving and protecting these remarkable creatures for generations to come.
