Dust storm in Iran
January 23, 2010 - Pale tan dust billows over the Dasht-e Lut, a large salt desert in eastern Iran. The dust storm blows across the southern desert, leaving clear the distinctive orange dune fields and wind-swept lines in the north. In the thickest part of the storm, the dust cloud blurs the texture of the land beneath it, revealing instead the texture of the air in waves and lines. The most distinctive waves surround Kuh-e Bazman, a 3, 489-meter (11, 450-foot) tall volcano, which rises above the dust cloud. The ripples in the dust are a reflection of turbulence created as air flows around the peak. The dust seeps into the valleys of the mountains south and east of the volcano

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the sheer power and beauty of a dust storm in Iran. Taken on January 23,2010, the image showcases pale tan dust billowing over the vast expanse of Dasht-e Lut, an expansive salt desert in eastern Iran. As the storm sweeps across the southern desert, it reveals the striking orange dune fields and wind-swept lines in its wake. Intriguingly, amidst this thick blanket of dust, one can observe how it blurs the texture of the land beneath it. Instead, what emerges are mesmerizing waves and lines that depict the very texture of air itself. The most prominent among these patterns surround Kuh-e Bazman, a towering stratovolcano standing at an impressive height of 3,489 meters (11,450 feet). Rising above the swirling dust cloud like a majestic sentinel. The ripples seen within this dusty tempest are evidence of turbulence created as air flows around this imposing peak. Moreover, one can witness how this relentless storm permeates into valleys nestled between mountains to both south and east sides of Kuh-e Bazman. This awe-inspiring photograph not only showcases nature's raw power but also highlights Iran's unique geographical features - from its arid climate to its stunning landscapes shaped by forces such as dust storms. It serves as a reminder that even amidst chaos and turmoil there is undeniable beauty waiting to be discovered.
