EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back 75 million years ago to the Cretaceous period, where marine predators ruled the Western Interior Seaway of North America. In this artist's concept, we witness a dramatic scene unfolding beneath the ocean waters. The image showcases four primary marine predators engaged in a thrilling chase. On the left side of the frame, an unidentified invertebrate attempts to flee from its pursuer, a fearsome 4-foot-long Enchodus with rows of sharp teeth ready to strike. Close behind is a larger predator known as Dolichorhynchops, measuring an impressive 17 feet long. This plesiosaur gracefully glides through the water, its elongated neck and streamlined body perfectly adapted for hunting. However, even Dolichorhynchops must watch its back because lurking just behind it is the ultimate apex predator – a massive 55-foot-long Mosasaur. With its varanoid lizard-like appearance and powerful jaws filled with razor-sharp fangs, this creature dominates the food chain of these prehistoric seas. The artwork beautifully captures both danger and confrontation as these ancient creatures navigate their underwater world. It serves as a reminder of Earth's rich natural history and evolution throughout different eras. As we gaze upon this digitally generated image by Walter Myers, we are transported to an era when survival was dependent on one's ability to hunt or be hunted in an unforgiving environment teeming with monstrous marine beasts.
