17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a remarkable water wheel in Nubia during the 1830s. The artwork, created by Scottish painter David Roberts and lithographed by Louis Haghe, depicts a Persian water wheel being utilized to raise water from the Nile for irrigation purposes in Nubian farmland. Roberts embarked on an extensive journey through Egypt, Nubia, and other Middle Eastern regions between 1838 and 1839, resulting in a vast collection of drawings and watercolors. Published in "Egypt and Nubia" (1846-1849), this particular watercolor offers a glimpse into the historical significance of agriculture and technology during that era. The image portrays an adult male farmer turning the wheel with oxen while irrigating the land. It beautifully captures both human ingenuity and animal assistance working harmoniously to enhance farming practices. Nubia, which encompasses parts of modern-day Sudan and southern Egypt, was then under Ottoman Empire rule. This artwork not only serves as a visual testament to the region's rich history but also highlights its agricultural prowess. The intricate details within this illustration transport us back to the 19th century when such technological advancements were paramount for sustaining communities. Through this photograph print from Science Photo Library's Asian and Middle Eastern Division at New York Public Library, we are reminded of humanity's ability to harness natural resources creatively for societal progress - an enduring theme throughout history across diverse cultures around the world.
