Sohal surgeonfish
Sohal surgeonfish (Acanthurus sohal) over a coral reef. Behind them is a shoal of sergeant major fish (Abudefduf sp.). The Sohal surgeonfish (or tang) inhabits tropical waters in the Red Sea and Arabian Gulf. Surgeonfish are named due to the presence of a sharp spine at the base of their tail, which is orange in this species. This is used to deter predators. The Sohal surgeonfish may reach a length of around 40 centimetres. It is a popular aquarium fish as it is beautiful and hardy. Photographed in the Egyptian Red Sea

23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the vibrant and diverse marine life found in the Egyptian Red Sea. In the foreground, two Sohal surgeonfish, also known as tangs, gracefully swim over a magnificent coral reef. Their striking blue bodies contrast beautifully against the colorful backdrop of corals and tropical fish. The Sohal surgeonfish is native to tropical waters in the Red Sea and Arabian Gulf. Its name originates from the sharp spine located at the base of its tail, which serves as a defense mechanism against potential predators. This particular species boasts an orange-colored spine that adds to its allure. Measuring up to 40 centimeters in length, these stunning creatures have become popular choices for aquarium enthusiasts due to their remarkable beauty and resilience. However, it's important not to overlook their significance within their natural habitat. In this image, we can see a shoal of sergeant major fish swimming behind them, creating a mesmerizing spectacle of movement and color beneath the surface of the ocean. The photographer has skillfully captured this moment in time, allowing us to appreciate both the delicate balance and breathtaking wonders found within our planet's underwater ecosystems. This awe-inspiring photograph was taken by Science Photo Library during an exploration of Egypt's Red Sea region—an area renowned for its rich biodiversity—and offers viewers a glimpse into an enchanting world hidden beneath waves.
