The Milky Way seen from the Southern hemisphere

The Milky Way. Optical image showing part of the Milky Way from the constellation of Crux Australis (Southern Cross, bottom left) through Carina. It shows an area extremely rich in star clusters, dark and bright (pink) nebulae. Dark nebulae are formed by clouds of interstellar dust which scatter and absorb the radiation from stars situated behind them. Bright nebulae are clouds of interstellar gas which is ionised and lit up by the ultraviolet radiation of nearby hot and young stars. The Large Magellanic Cloud, a satellite galaxy of the Milky Way, is seen at bottom right. The brightest star at centre right is Canopus the second brightest star in the sky after Sirius

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the mesmerizing beauty of the Milky Way as seen from the Southern hemisphere. The image, taken from the constellation of Crux Australis (Southern Cross), offers a stunning view that stretches through Carina. What makes this particular area so remarkable is its abundance of star clusters and nebulae, both dark and bright. The dark nebulae, composed of interstellar dust clouds, create an enchanting effect by scattering and absorbing radiation emitted by stars positioned behind them. On the other hand, the bright pink nebulae are formed by ionized interstellar gas illuminated by nearby hot and young stars' ultraviolet radiation. In this photograph, we can also admire the presence of the Large Magellanic Cloud at bottom right—a satellite galaxy orbiting our own Milky Way. Additionally, our attention is drawn to Canopus—the second brightest star in the sky—shining brilliantly at center right. This optical image not only serves as a testament to humanity's fascination with space but also highlights how vast and awe-inspiring our universe truly is. It invites us to contemplate our place within it while marveling at its celestial wonders. This breathtaking snapshot captures a moment frozen in time—an invitation for all who gaze upon it to embark on their own cosmic journey through imagination and wonderment.
