Marsoulas cave painting replica C013 / 7414

Marsoulas cave painting replica. This is a replica of one of the prehistoric cave paintings in the Great Hall of the Buffalo, discovered in the Marsoulas cave in the French Pyrenees. The paintings date from around 12, 000 years ago, at the time of the early modern human Magdalenian culture. Animals depicted here include bison, ibexes, deer and horses. The cave has been closed to the public to prevent damage, and these replicas, by the artists Gilles Tosello and Alain Dalis, are displayed in the prehistoric visitors centre in Tarascon-sur-Ariege

23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the Marsoulas cave painting replica C013/7414, a remarkable piece of prehistoric art found in the Great Hall of the Buffalo within the Marsoulas cave in the French Pyrenees. Dating back approximately 12,000 years ago during the Magdalenian culture, these paintings offer a glimpse into the early modern human civilization. The replica faithfully captures the essence of this ancient artwork, featuring an array of animals such as bison, ibexes, deer, and horses. These creatures were skillfully depicted by artists Gilles Tosello and Alain Dalis to convey their significance in that era. Due to preservation concerns, access to the original cave has been restricted to protect its delicate state. However, visitors can marvel at these replicas displayed at Tarascon-sur-Ariege's prehistoric visitors center. This European center serves as a hub for anthropological and paleontological enthusiasts seeking insights into our stone-age ancestors' lives. Stepping into this museum feels like traveling through time itself – from exploring Pleistocene fauna to unraveling palaeolithic history. The intricate details captured on these pictograms provide invaluable clues about wildlife during that period while offering glimpses into our shared past. Philippe Psaila's photograph immortalizes this extraordinary replica with precision and finesse. It serves as a testament to humanity's enduring curiosity about our origins and reminds us of how far we have come since those distant days in France's rich cultural landscape.
