International Space Station solar panels

International Space Station (ISS) solar panels over a limb of the Earth. This is the starboard array on the P6 truss. A total of eight arrays are to be installed. Each array is 33 by 12 metres. The central mast supports two blankets of 84 solar panels with 200 solar cells per panel. The arrays will provide 246 kilowatts of power, equivalent to powering 200 homes. Photographed on 4 December 2000, during mission STS-97 by the Space Shuttle Endeavour. The ISS is a joint effort between the space agencies of the USA, Europe, Russia, Canada, Japan and Brazil. It orbits at an altitude of 350 kilometres, has been manned since October 2000 and is scheduled for completion in 2004

23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the International Space Station's remarkable solar panels as they gracefully hover over the Earth's limb. The starboard array, located on the P6 truss, is one of eight arrays that will be installed to power this extraordinary feat of human engineering. Each array spans an impressive 33 by 12 meters and consists of a central mast supporting two blankets adorned with 84 solar panels. These light-sensitive panels boast an astounding 200 solar cells per panel. With a combined capacity of 246 kilowatts, these cutting-edge arrays possess enough energy to sustainably power approximately 200 homes back on our planet. This environmentally friendly approach to generating electricity in space is truly awe-inspiring. Captured during mission STS-97 by the Space Shuttle Endeavour on December 4th, 2000, this image serves as a testament to international collaboration and scientific progress. The International Space Station represents a joint effort between space agencies from the United States, Europe, Russia, Canada, Japan, and Brazil. Orbiting at an altitude of around 350 kilometers since October of that year and scheduled for completion in 2004, this manned spaceflight project symbolizes humanity's boundless curiosity and determination to explore beyond our earthly confines. With its advanced photovoltaic technology powering its systems day after day amidst the vastness of space, it stands as a beacon for mankind's ingenuity and thirst for knowledge about our universe.
