After the blitzing of the City of London, Red Cross Street Fire Station

After the blitzing of the City of London, Red Cross Street Fire Station, which had been badly burned externally and only saved from destruction by the determined efforts of the Station personnel, was left surrounded by debris and wrecked buildings.
Undaunted however, firemen and forewoman got together and levelled off an area of ground opposite. The fire station which they had prior to enemy activities had been a bank.
Soil was transported from Hampstead and Finsbury Square, carried and spread by the personnel and thus, amongst the ruins, has sprung a garden, cultivated with great interest with the fire men and women of the National Fire Force of Red Cross Station.
Picture shows: personnel at work on the garden, looking west over the ruins towards Aldersgate Street.

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
After the devastating blitzing of the City of London, a remarkable scene unfolds in this photo print. The Red Cross Street Fire Station stands as a testament to resilience and determination, its exterior badly burned but miraculously saved from destruction by the unwavering efforts of its personnel. Surrounded by debris and wrecked buildings, the firemen and forewoman refuse to be disheartened. Undaunted by their surroundings, they come together to transform an area of ground opposite the station into something extraordinary. This very spot once housed a bank before enemy activities altered its fate forever. With soil transported all the way from Hampstead and Finsbury Square, carried and spread diligently by these dedicated men and women, a garden emerges amidst the ruins. Cultivated with great interest by those serving in Red Cross Station's National Fire Force, this green oasis symbolizes growth amidst chaos. In this poignant image captured on July 7th, 1942, we witness personnel hard at work tending to their precious garden. Looking west over the remnants towards Aldersgate Street, they embody not only hope but also defiance against adversity. This photograph encapsulates not just a moment in time during World War Two but also represents humanity's indomitable spirit in times of conflict. It serves as a reminder that even amidst destruction and despair, life can flourish through collective effort.
