23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative WW2 ATS (Auxiliary Territorial Service) poster from circa 1940, sourced from Mary Evans Prints Online, showcases the vital role of motorcycle messengers during the Second World War. The poster's bold design, reminiscent of the era, features a determined young woman in military uniform, poised on the seat of a motorcycle, helmet in hand. Her gaze is focused on the horizon, conveying a sense of duty, courage, and determination. The background of the poster is a backdrop of wartime chaos, with explosions and smoke in the distance, underscoring the importance of the messenger's role in delivering crucial information and supplies to the front lines. The tagline, "Speed and secrecy are our weapons," emphasizes the urgency and importance of their work. The ATS was a women's auxiliary military organization in the British Army during WW2. Motorcycle messengers were an essential part of the ATS, providing a quick and efficient means of communication between military units. Their work was dangerous, as they often had to navigate through enemy lines and deliver messages under fire. This poster is a testament to the vital role that women played in the war effort, breaking gender stereotypes and proving their worth in roles that were traditionally considered the domain of men. The image of the motorcycle messenger is a powerful symbol of the courage, resilience, and determination of the women who served in the ATS during WW2.
