17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This exquisite color-printed woodblock engraving depicts the White Japanese Camellia, Shirotahe (Thea japonica Nois. flore semipleno forma), a beautiful and iconic flower native to Japan. The engraving is the work of Kan en Iwasaki, a renowned Japanese botanist, entomologist, and zoologist, born in 1786. Iwasaki was one of the first Japanese scholars to incorporate Western knowledge into his studies, making significant contributions to the field of botany. The image is taken from Honzo Zufu, an Illustrated Guide to Medicinal Plants, published in 1884. Iwasaki meticulously documented various medicinal plants and their uses, creating a comprehensive record of Japan's natural resources. In this print, the White Japanese Camellia is depicted in all its splendor, with its delicate, snow-white petals unfurling around a dark center, and its vibrant green leaves. The White Japanese Camellia, also known as Shirotahe, has been a cherished symbol of Japan for centuries. Its beauty and resilience have made it a popular subject for artists and poets, while its medicinal properties have been utilized in traditional Japanese medicine. The plant is believed to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, and has been used to treat various ailments, including colds, fevers, and skin conditions. This stunning woodblock engraving provides a glimpse into Japan's rich botanical heritage and the groundbreaking work of one of its most influential scholars. It is a testament to the enduring beauty and significance of the natural world and the importance of preserving and documenting its wonders.
